ELSC Extreme Heat Policy
Purpose
This policy outlines the procedures the East London Soccer Club (ELSC) will follow in the event of high temperatures or humidex warnings to ensure the safety and well-being of all players, referees, coaches, and volunteers.ย This policy applies to all divisions, Under 4 to Adult.
Policy Statement
ELSC activities, including games and practices, will proceed as scheduled despite high temperature and/or humidex warnings. Games will not be cancelled due to extreme heat except in cases where temperatures reach hazardous levels as outlined below. The following safety measures will be implemented during periods of elevated temperatures.
Safety Measures
To reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses:
- Extra water and rest breaks will be enforced by Convenors and Referees.
- Practice sessions will be conducted at a slow and easy pace to minimize exertion (under 40ยฐC).
- Parents need to ensure children come to each game and practice with an ample supply of water.
Temperature-Based Guidelines
| Air Temperature | Action |
| 30ยฐC and below | No additional action required. |
| 31ยฐC โ 39ยฐC | Mandatory 2-minute water breaks per half for all games. |
| 40ยฐC and above | Games and Practices will be cancelled for the safety of all participants. |

Decision-Making
Game-day temperature decisions will be based on Environment Canada forecasts and made by 4:00 PM on the day of the game. ELSC reserves the right to cancel or postpone activities based on updated weather data and safety considerations.
